Summer on Fischerinsel finally

Somehow it feels like awakening from a long winter hibernation, the arrival of summer nice.Of course we have had a few false starts this year so lets wait and see before we make it official.

The tourists are back in force, noisy drunk and falling over the usual obstacles. There must have been an improvement in the mapping around here as far fewer seem to be wandering off and getting lost, shame as that’s one of the few thing’s that makes up for the noisy fools yammering around like geese.

Downside of all this sunshine is the Rug Rats are out longer, their sweet screams piercing the day like chalk on a blackboard. Now they seem to be legally allowed to make as much noise as they wish with impunity they do. I wouldn’t mind so much but apparently there was an article about the overseers demanding more money because of the noisy environment they work in, great our compensation is stress and earache. Still easier to change the law than teach kids respect for the environment, or did they forget noise is pollution too.

That’s all for now folks I’ll end with little seasonal picture.

Deforestation – Hack it back.

Now I would love to claim credit for this but I am sure it isn’t the case. Yesterday morning, very early yesterday morning we were awoken to the sounds of plant moving onto the island, followed by the cheerful dawn chorus of workmen at their labour. Unable to see what was afoot through pre-seven o’clock bleary eyes I stuffed my ears and rolled over, after all it is standard in this city for workmen to try and wake you as early as possible, but more on this another time.

Later on in the day it became apparent what was occurring, lo and behold the woodcutters had turned up to rid the banks of their vegetation. When I say vegetation I mean a small elfin forest, that had sprung up along the banks of our mystical water course.
All engines running the men set about beating a new path for the humble tourist to traverse our wondrous walks. By the mid afternoon the illustrious workers had hacked back almost all of the two year growth that had accumulated, and the difference was stunning. Granted the roots are still in and the flora will soon be back but it is a good start, the men worked hard and in some pretty hefty heat to boot.
With a little luck it should last us until the Berlin coffers are full enough for another hack attack in a few years time. Until then I for one will enjoy the tidy scene they have laboured hard to provide us.
